I always love visiting the Royal Botanic Gardens. I usually walk The Tan track which follows the circular perimeter of the gardens. It’s only 2.5 miles and it’s an easy and leisurely walk, although can be busy with joggers and runners at lunch times.
There’s always something interesting to see, whether it’s the Melbourne cityscape, the Shrine of Remembrance or the floral and fauna in the different seasons.
It’s also home to the National Herbarium of Victoria, the largest and earliest herbaria and the oldest scientific institution in Victoria, Australia. It’s little known that their collection includes items gathered by Joseph Banks during the voyage of HMS Endeavour in year 1770, as well as Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle, December 1831.
